I am in Shenzhen, China where I am overseeing the printing of my book, “The Color of Light”.

This is a pretty exciting time for me as this book has been almost 4o years in the making. It’s a collection of some of my favorite personal images… some iconic and some never before published. Subject-wise they are very diverse, but they all illustrate those three elements in photography that are so important to me; light, color and the moment. Paul Caponigro, the great master black and white photographer, asked me recently if the photographs in the book were “traditional or digital”. I explained that they were both, to which he replied, “Oh, then the book is tradigital!” I couldn’t have put it any better.

About a year and a half ago, I began working with my friend, Lowell Williams, who designed the book. A former principle of Pentagram, Lowell is an extraordinary designer who I’ve had the privilege of working with on many projects over the years. As expected, the book design is simple and elegant.

So we finally begin the printing of the book. To say that I am in a state of anxious anticipation would be an understatement. Let the presses roll!

  1. How exciting Arthur! I remember some great Asian photos from your past exhibits which I hope will be in here. Isn’t there a bright, colorful umbrella shot???? I can’t remember what I ate for breakfast but I seem to remember that from an exhibit of yours and I loved it!???? am I right?

  2. Congrats Arthur. I know it will be fabulous. Wonder if any of my favorite images are included? We have three of your images hanging in our home in Dallas! Cheers, Rex

    1. Thanks, Rex! Good to hear from you. I’m betting one or two of your favorites made the cut.

  3. Congratulation !!!!
Have a great time in SZ! It’s your new baby born !
    Can’t wait anymore !!

  4. Don Arturo

This is great, I look forward with great anticipation.
I was in Rockport last week and Tim Whelan said you were in China working on the book and told me the shot with the red hat would be the cover.
I would be very interested in purchasing one of the limited editions he described to me. Please keep me in mind.
And remember, we WILL meet again!

    Best Always

    1. Thanks, Bruce! I got you down for a limited edition and will let you know when I have all the details.

  5. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of your new baby (book). Happy for you, Arthur!
    Many Kudos!

  6. I can tell by the cover it’s going to be an elegant book. Congrats. And of course you are capturing more great images while you are in China.

    1. In between press checks I’m trying to make a few shots, but it’s not easy being “on call”.

  7. I can’t wait to see what you have chosen to include. You have enough for several remarkable books. Congratulations, Arthur.

    1. Thanks, Gerry! Selecting 113 photos from almost 40 years was not an easy task but I’ve always believed that less is more.

    1. Thanks, Kathy! While the book is not a “printed version” of the workshop, it does include many of the examples of ideas that were expressed in the class as well as a couple of essays and a conversation that further discuss my photographic philosophy.
